Pump Rules' Jax Taylor on How Marriage and His Son "Saved [His] Life," His "Morning Shift" With Cruz, and His and Brittany's Post-Baby Date Night Gone Wrong

Jax Taylor is a new man since marrying his wife Brittany Cartwright and starting a family with the addition of their first child, one-year-old son Cruz.

While appearing on an episode of Scheana Shay‘s podcast last week alongside Brittany, Brock Davies, and Raquel Leviss, the Vanderpump Rules alum admitted that settling down saved him before dishing on why he takes the morning shift with Cruz and opening up about his and Brittany’s first post-baby date night.

“If you knew who I was in the past, getting married changed me a lot. Then having a child changed me even more,” Jax revealed on the September 9 episode of Scheananigans. “I think having my son, I don’t want to say saved my life… But close to… I can’t even imagine my life without him. I can’t even remember my life without him.”

According to Jax, meeting Brittany in Las Vegas led him to change his mind about several things, including kids and pets.

“[I] never wanted kids. I never wanted to get married. I never wanted pets. I never wanted any of it… I said this to my dad before he died, it wasn’t gonna happen,” he explained.

Now, though, Jax has a wife, a child, and “three f-cking dogs.”

“God just works in mysterious ways. This whole life that I’m having right now was not in my cards at all. That was not me. [But] I feel like being married and having a child, it really saved my life,” he admitted.

And after discussing a weekend of partying he and his castmates recently enjoyed, Jax said that when it comes to caring for his son, he doesn’t mind tending to Cruz first-thing because he’s such a late sleeper.

“Brittany and I go to bed late, so we sleep in… But I do choose the morning shift because I do get up before Brittany, and I’d rather her sleep, for my own safety,” he laughed. “So he gets up at 9:30, and I guess it’s a rare thing because I talk to a lot of parents, and they’re like, ‘Your kid sleeps til 9:30?’”

While Jax and Brittany love their new roles as mom and dad, they recently attempted to get back to their old selves with a night out at a nightclub in Hollywood. However, after enjoying a fancy dinner as Brittany’s mom, Sherri Cartwright babysat Cruz, the couple ran out of steam.

“I hadn’t been out since my child was born. My mother in law was coming into town from Kentucky. I go, ‘Let’s go out and let’s do like a Hollywood night,’” Jax recalled. “The point of the whole thing was is like, ‘Let’s go out and just be who we used to be. We’re going to the fancy dinner, we’re gonna go to Warwick. I want you to dress as provocative as you can, and we’re just gonna have so much fun.'”

But despite their efforts to reclaim their former identities, Jax and Brittany didn’t last past 10 p.m.

“I’ve been praying, and like waiting for my mother-in-law to come into town [so] we can finally have a date. And we lasted til 10. And I’m okay with it. We attempted it. We tried. We gave it our all [but] we’re different people now,” Jax noted.

Vanderpump Rules season 10 is currently in production without Jax and Brittany, who exited the series in December 2020.
