Venita Aspen hosted an “Ask Me a Question” session on her Instagram Story on Friday. And during the Q&A with her fans and followers, the lifestyle blogger was asked about her experience as the only Black cast member of Southern Charm.
Before responding to inquiries about whether or not she recently relocated to New York City, where she’s frequently been seen in recent weeks, and about her friendship with Summer House cast member Ciara Miller, Venita spoke of her first season on the reality show.
“Love you on Southern Charm! What’s it like being the only Black cast member?” a fan asked Venita on September 16.
“I’ve had no issues with the cast because of that if that’s what you’re asking,” Venita replied.
Another person asked, “Did you permanently move to NYC?”
“I did not!” Venita confirmed. “I just spend summers in [New York]… It’s better for work.”
As the Q&A continued, Venita, who was first reported as a cast member of the series in September 2021, was questioned about how her friendship with Ciara, who was linked to her Southern Charm co-star, Austen Kroll, amid filming on the latest season (despite his relationship with their other castmate, Olivia Flowers), came about.
“How did you [and] Ciara [from Summer House] become friends?” the person asked.
“Instagram [plus] we work for the same network,” Venita revealed.
During the eighth season of Southern Charm, Venita experienced beef with Olivia, who she questioned about potential racism amid the group’s garden party. However, after being left out of a party thrown by Olivia shortly thereafter, Olivia said she regretted not finishing her much-needed conversation with Venita sooner.
“If I could go back, I would do things differently,” Olivia admitted to In the Know in August. “I really wish we could’ve had that conversation that we had this past week before my party, [so I could] have her there. That wasn’t an easy decision. However, I do still feel that that wasn’t the time or place to have the conversation that she wanted to have at the garden party.”
“If I could go back and have her at the party, I would. I would do that differently,” she added.
Southern Charm season eight airs Thursdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
