Ariana Madix had a difficult time filming the 10th season of Vanderpump Rules last year.

While appearing on Bachelor alum Nick Viall’s podcast last month, Ariana explained why her mind was elsewhere amid production, admitting that after suffering a series of losses last summer, she was forced to miss out on several days of filming.

“I had like a really bad year last year and a really bad summer,” Ariana revealed on the January 24 episode of The Viall Files, via Heavy. “I lost my dog of 18 years and then like the next month I lost my grandma, so that was all during filming, so to try to be present and sane for all the drama that honestly should be fun drama in a way was really hard. It was really hard to be like, ‘I’m here, I care, and I have something clever to say about this because my mind is completely somewhere else.’”

According to Ariana, she lost her grandmother “in the middle of filming.”

“I had to leave and go home so I was gone for a few days of filming, so yeah, it had to be addressed because all of the sudden I was just not around. So it had to be explained and stuff like that,” she noted. “It just f-cking sucked.”

That said, Ariana couldn’t say for sure whether her hardships would be worked into her storyline for season 10.

“We show everything, it’s up to production or Bravo to say ‘Okay these are the things that we see that we want to follow or not’ but the footage is all there, so then they, you know, I guess pick what they think is the most entertaining,” she explained.

As Pump Rules fans may have seen, Ariana opened up about her challenges of 2022 in a post shared on her Instagram page on January 1.

“I’ve definitely referred to 2022 as the worst year of my life a number of times, but looking back on all of my memories made me realize that alongside all the grief and mental anguish there was also so much love, joy, and beautiful times with incredible people,” she wrote at the time. “I don’t know what I did to deserve the most amazing friends, partner, and family, but without you guys I don’t know if I would be here.”

“I’m so ready to leave all of 2022’s trials and tribulations behind!” she continued. “Thank you grandma for your friendship, guidance, giggles, and your love. I couldn’t dream up a more incredible woman. It’s such an honor to be a part of your legacy. Thank you charlotte for being my best friend, listening to my rants, and cuddling with me for 18 years.”

Also in her post, Ariana said that in 2023, she hoped to bring back “all the good,” her podcast, and her “lust for life,” among other things.

Back in January, Ariana responded to a series of questions from fans on her Instagram Story, where she admitted she wasn’t looking forward to seeing the deaths of her dog and grandmother play out on the show.

“[I’m] NOT looking forward to reliving Charlotte and my grandma both passing away during filming and my subsequent white knuckle attempt to hold on to a shred of my sanity,” she shared.

As for what she is excited about in terms of season 10, Ariana said she’s “looking forward to everyone seeing [Schwartz & Sandy’s],” the bar her boyfriend, Tom Sandoval, owns with their co-star, Tom Schwartz.

Vanderpump Rules season 10 premieres Wednesday, February 8, at 9/8c on Bravo.
