Captain Sandy Yawn offered an update on Nathan Gallagher after his domestic violence conviction in September.

As authorities in both Australia and Ireland continue to search for the 28-year-old Below Deck Mediterranean star due to both his latest charges in Australia, which stemmed from an incident involving Gael Cameron, 30, the mother of his one-year-old son, Kayden, and an alleged assault in Ireland, Captain Sandy, 61, spoke of how Nathan was doing.

“Nathan struggles,” Captain Sandy told Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea on October 14. “We talk, and I encourage him to stop drinking and get help, and that’s what he’s doing right now. He stopped drinking. He’s going to meetings, and he’s trying to change his life. And the next part of his life, hopefully, will be to face everything that he’s done.”

As fans will recall, Nathan was arrested last December near Sydney and cited for “assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentionally chok[ing] a person without consent and common assault.” Around the same time, an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO), which is similar to a restraining order, was filed against him on Gael’s behalf.

After bailing out of jail following the arrest, Nathan was convicted of three counts of domestic violence after failing to appear in court.

While Nathan has remained silent since his conviction, he did release a lengthy statement after his arrest, suggesting that there was more to the story in regard to what happened between him and Gael.

“I don’t believe the public has heard the full story surrounding what happened,” Nathan revealed to Rolling Stone. “I understand [New South Wales] Police have confirmed my arrest in December 2025. What has been publicly reported, however, represents only one side of what was an extremely complicated situation.”

“I have contemporaneous video footage from the night in question, as well as messages and other records, which I believe provide important context and show events that have not been publicly reported,” he continued. “I am willing to provide the relevant footage so that you can make your own assessment of what it shows.”

After Nathan’s conviction was confirmed last month, Bravo cut ties with the reality star, and his former girlfriend, Gael, spoke out, thanking fans for the support they’d offered to both her and her son.

“It’s been a tough season but I have been using the past few months to quietly heal and rebuild for little man and myself,” she wrote. “I really appreciate the love you have sent our way, especially with everything that’s come to light, and I’m really working on finding myself again and moving forward.”
