As reported earlier this week, Real Housewives of New York City star Luann de Lesseps has entered rehab for the second time. And now, we’re learning that those closest to the embattled reality star held an intervention in recent weeks that was met with a great deal of resistance. Also, more details of her relapse and denial is being reported.
TMZ is reporting this morning that the 53-yr-old Bravo star had simply been pretending to be sober for weeks now.
The site reports that after Luann declared herself six months sober in an Instagram post on July 2, posted below, she got wasted at a public charity event in the Hamptons the very next day when she made a late and noisy entrance and disrupted a piano performance. She was then was seen hitting up the bar and hitting on several guys. Page Six was the first to report about Luann’s rowdy behavior at this event earlier this month.
And in a report from July 16, a pal of Luann’s tells Page Six that her friends were “worried that she was going to do some serious harm to herself.” And that was probably a valid concern, as Luann has been quite candid about the fact that she “self medicates” with alcohol, and she’s certainly been under a great deal of stress lately.
In addition to the criminal charges she faced stemming from her December 2017 arrest, Luann is also being sued by her children, Victoria de Lesseps and Noel de Lesseps, and her ex- husband, Count Alexandre de Lesseps . She is being accused of stealing from her children by failing to set up a trust for them which would award them half of one of the family’s vacation homes.
All of the recent stress must have taken it’s toll leading to Luann’s recent erratic behavior at the Hamptons charity event as well as during an appearance at a parade in June.
This led to those closest to Luann holding an intervention for her in recent weeks, but that was unsuccessful according to sources. In fact, it was poorly received by the former Countess and drove her further away from her inner circle.
It was another close friend, co-star Bethenny Frankel, who broke the sad news of Luann’s relapse to PEOPLE magazine on Monday, although it’s not clear whether, or not, she was present for the intervention.
Luann ultimately walked into rehab surrounded by friends. In addition to her loved ones, she also has the full support of the Bravo network as she works on getting healthy.
“Bravo supports Luann’s decision to focus on her health. She is part of the Bravo family and we continue to stand by her as she copes with this challenging situation. At this time, we hope everyone will respect her privacy,” a spokesperson for the network said before declining to comment further.
We certainly wish Luann all the best, and we’ll definitely miss her at the upcoming season 10 reunion. Get well soon, Countess, we’re all pulling for you!
