Danielle Staub claimed she was blindsided when her estranged husband, Marty Caffrey, listed their New Jersey home but according to him, he informed the Real Housewives of New Jersey star of the impending sale weeks before the property hit the market.
While out in New York over the weekend, Marty said Danielle was lying when she claimed it was a friend who informed her their home had been listed for just over $2 million.
“I did tell her that… she definitely knew that,” Marty explained to TMZ. “She knew at the one-year anniversary, which was just before Thanksgiving, that the home was going to be put on the market and it’s kind of hard to imagine that you could put a house on the market without your wife knowing about it because people have to come and see it. How are you going to hide that?”
According to Marty, things between himself and Danielle began to sour before they actually wedded.
“Things started to really deteriorate just before the wedding and when they started filming season nine, she changed. She changed dramatically from what she was,” he explained. “We were dating for almost a year and three quarters before the wedding and it was a whole different person. When she started to film again, she became a celebrity that, in her mind, was better than most people, certainly better than me.”
“Conversations were always one-sided and I just asked her, I said, you have to treat me a bit nicer, particularly in public. It’s just not a good look,” he added.
Then, when asked why Danielle would lie about whether or not she knew their home was going to be put up for sale, Marty admitted he was unsure.
“I don’t know why. She’s saying some things lately that don’t make any sense. So, I don’t know what her reason for it would be,” he said. “I guess maybe she thought it would never come to pass and when it actually did, and I told her this was going to happen, that she was not very happy about it.”
Shortly after Marty spoke out, Danielle took to Instagram, where she shared a photo of her and Marty’s May wedding in The Bahamas and lashed out at her estranged husband for his alleged abuse.
“If he was the one for me, we would still be together you can all pass judgment you can all say what you need to say and I’m certain the opinions will be strong but I urge you all to take a minute and realize I’m sharing my life with you the ups and downs… I do realize I leave myself open for scrutiny but the things that my husband has done to my family and I weeks following our wedding breaking his vows he promised to protect keep me safe love me and honor me …so take a moment to realize no one would know his name if it weren’t for me trusting him to want to be a part of my family and my life,” she wrote.
Danielle also claimed Marty had been abusive towards her and said she was looking forward to moving past their short-lived marriage.
“He used my platform abused my name, me, and by supporting him you are doing the same by supporting a man who is abusive in every facet and continues to threaten the very core of my existence so if you still feel good about your decision to stand with him on his rampage then that’s on you. I would like to take a more positive moment at this time to thank all of you who support me and my family! I look forward to your continued support in the next chapter of my life!”
