LuAnn de Lesseps has been accused of being self-absorbed on a number of occasions throughout the 11th season of The Real Housewives of New York City and during a recent episode of the After Show, she addressed the allegations, just as she was labeled “disloyal” by her co-star, Dorinda Medley.
“The truth of the matter is, I think it is disloyal. All this ‘girl code’ and ‘money can’t buy you class’ … She needs to start following her own rules. There’s just certain things in my life that are off-limits and dating anyone’s exes or ex-boyfriends I just wouldn’t do,” Dorinda said. “It isn’t cool. It’s disloyal.”
In addition to marrying Tom D’Agostino Jr. after his fling with Sonja, LuAnn took off with Harry Dubin after he gave Sonja an engagement ring and seemingly hooked up with a pirate in St. Barths, who initially came back to their vacation rental with Sonja.
“She’s holding onto these old stories like she holds onto the Morgan past,” LuAnn said of Sonja. “You know, I’ve never dated anybody else other than Harry… Oh, besides Tom of course.”
“I think that Sonja and Dorinda… like they say, ‘You hurt the ones you love the most,’ and I think when they drink, they just go after me and they take pleasure in it,” she added.
In a separate After Show clip, LuAnn addressed the claims of being ‘self-absorbed’ and explained why focusing on herself was necessary during the time she and her co-stars were in production on season 11.
“I think that dealing with what I’ve had to deal with and taking care of myself and being a little self-absorbed is just what the doctor ordered for me at that time in my life,” LuAnn explained. “Maybe I’m a little self-absorbed but I need to be right now to stay sane and sober.”
“We were trying to let her see that we all felt the same way, so it must be true. But it still didn’t sink in, did it?” Sonja asked.
“I think it’s the beginning of people sort of saying, ‘Enough,'” Dorinda replied. “People had incredible patience for the whole thing in the beginning and I think as time goes on, you’re going to see that people are getting less and less patient about all this entitlement.”
The Real Housewives of New York City season 11 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on Bravo TV.
