While things between the former Real Housewives of Orange County cast member, 35, and the baseball legend, 49, got ugly quick after Jim filed for divorce last Friday, his latest statement seems to hint that he is ready to move on from the “distrust” and turmoil he and Meghan have faced in recent months.
After labeling the past five days as the “most emotionally exhausting” time of his life and admitting to feeling “anger” and “embarrassment,” Jim released a message to Us Weekly.
“The last couple years have been rough on my wife and me for many reasons. Marriage is difficult but add three small children under three, two adolescent children, two adult children, building a house and two busy, hard-working spouses and the stress of living our lives in the public eye,” he said. “At times we are exhausted and feel our life has become one of distrust, kids, work, house, sleep and repeat.”
In June, Jim was caught sending a number of inappropriate messages, photos, and videos to another woman, but after admitting to a “weak moment,” he confirmed his marriage was still intact. Then, after filing for divorce on Friday, rumors of another affair began swirling.
“It saddens me tremendously that my wife is hurt. After having a few days to digest the situation, I realize that something that occurred in a split second spiraled out of control with no way to stop it,” Jim continued. “We were both separately surprised to find out that the media had received details of our private situation without our knowledge.”
After Jim filed for divorce, Meghan seemed to suggest that he had cheated on her with one of their nannies after a fan on Instagram called out Carly Wilson for supposedly having an affair with her husband. While Meghan didn’t actually say that she believed the two of them had engaged in a sex act, she added fuel to the rumor by responding to the fan with a thumbs-up emoji.
Looking back on the drama that took place between himself and Meghan, which included a phone call to the police, Jim said that if he and Meghan simply made more time for one another, they would be able to sort through their issues.
“With our busy careers and the addition of our son’s medical needs, we were lacking quality time together,” he explained. “I’m removing myself and all of my family from this unnecessary publicity that I obviously have never quite enjoyed. I have way too much love for my wife and kids for this to happen and it’s time for us to get back to the private life we used to live.”
Jim continued on to the magazine by stating, “Meghan is a truly special woman who my kids are so fortunate to have as their mother,” and revealing plans to move forward in a “healthy, happy direction.”
“I love my family and will make it right again,” he added.
