Katie Maloney was completely caught off-guard when she learned that Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute had been fired from Vanderpump Rules due to claims of racism in June.
During a recent interview, Katie opened up about the ladies’ unexpected exit from the show, revealed the moment when she and Kristen settled their differences, spoke about her recent boat trip with her co-stars, and teased a potential spinoff series based out of TomTom.
“We were all very shocked by what happened,” Katie revealed to Hollywood Life on the latest episode of their TVTalk series on Instagram Live of Bravo’s decision to terminate Stassi and Kristen’s employment.
While the firings were certainly heartbreaking for Stassi and Kristen, Katie said she and Stassi ultimately reconciled with Kristen because of them.
“When they got fired, it was like all of our drama last summer, it just all seemed so petty and I was just more focused on wanting to be there to support my friend,” Katie shared, adding that she and Kristen have been “slowing spending more time together.”
“We put our differences aside and came back together to support one another,” she continued. “We’ve been like sisters for a long time and when one of us is going to go through something like that, it doesn’t matter where we are at. We are going to drop what we’re doing and be there for one another.”
“That was the moment that brought us back together,” she added.
According to Katie, she and Stassi reunited with Kristen on the same day that Bravo confirmed their firings.
“Kristen went over to Stassi’s and I was like, ‘I’m coming over,'” she recalled.
Although Katie and Stassi are back to spending time with Kristen, Katie admitted that she doesn’t know if the “Witches of WeHo” are back together before noting that she and her friends “aren’t putting any labels” on their rekindled relationships.
The ninth season of Pump Rules is currently on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic but over the weekend, Katie reunited with her co-stars in Lake Mead, Nevada for a mini-getaway.
“It felt so nice to be doing something ‘normal.’ We all got tested for COVID-19 before so we knew we would be in safe company. It was so nice to hang out,” Katie said of the trip. “Normally during the summertime, we are with each other all of the time and filming and we’ve been at home. It felt good to be back together and having fun.”
As for when filming will begin on season nine, Katie said she’s hoping to get started soon before adding that she and her castmates are “kind of just waiting” at the moment.
“I literally know nothing,” she explained. “There’s a lot of people whose health [we] need to take into consideration. I just hope that as soon as it’s safe, we can get back to filming.”
In addition to returning to production on Vanderpump Rules, Katie said she’s also open to filming a show at TomTom with her husband, Tom Schwartz, and his partner, Tom Sandoval.
“That would be great. Any capacity that we can get back to filming a show and living our crazy lives, we’d be down for,” she shared. “I think a TomTom spinoff would be great.”
