The tension between Monique Samuels and Candiace Dillard-Bassett has already begun to heat up on The Real Housewives of Potomac this season, and apparently, that tension is still very much there after cameras stopped rolling.
In a recent interview, Monique had some choice words for her RHOP co-star, and she also detailed the unfortunate circumstances of their upcoming altercation. Although Monique may have hoped for things to go a different way, she doesn’t necessarily fault herself for reacting in the way she did.
“She’s a snake with a wig on,” Monique quipped when speaking with Derek Zagami for his RealiTea show on August 30. “So some people like to present this very manicured perception of themselves to the world but you can’t keep up the act forever. So, at some point people are gonna see exactly what you are, and people are beginning to see it.”
The mother of three went on to share her disdain for Candiace on the show, saying that “some people think that they were just stars out the womb” and noted “the entitlement” as something that bothers her the most.
“For me, it’s a privilege to be able to be on a platform like this and earn your way into the hearts and minds of the viewers. You don’t just walk in and just expect that you’re gonna earn something that you haven’t worked hard for. What I believe is, through the engagement with the viewers and the fans of the show and the fans of my family … I believe in engaging with them in a positive way, I believe in having respect [for] their opinions and all those different things and some people don’t operate like that, and she’s definitely one of them.”
In discussing the details of their upcoming epic fight, Monique addressed how it went down as host Derek noted how easy it is to “explode” on reality TV after people push your buttons so many times.
“That is exactly what happens, it’s like being in a ticking time bomb, and I’m a person who’s a reactor,” Monique said. “I’m a very happy person, I like to get along with people. I will put my issues with a person to the side just so that we can get along and have a good time. But sometimes you have some people that like to continue to pick at you and push at you, and if you keep poking a bear, what’s the bear gonna do?”
The Not For Lazy Moms blogger also went on to explain how she’s going to be someone who stands up for herself and “demand[s] respect,” considering how she “give[s] respect.” She also teased the ultimately positive “journey” coming up on the show after the conflict went down.
“We just had a moment where things got out of hand. Do I wish that it could have went a different way? Obviously, but it is what it is, and I’m serious about the journey after the fact,” she shared. “I know a lot of people are focusing on the incident itself, but I would love for them to experience what I went through after everything was said and done. How did I handle it, how did I grow from it, what did I learn new about myself? That’s gonna be a whole journey in itself.”
