Garcelle Beauvais believes Sutton Stracke was in the “wrong” when it came to her tense racial conversations with their Real Housewives of Beverly Hills co-star, Crystal Kung Minkoff, the first Asian-American cast on the series.

After watching as Sutton shut down Crystal as she spoke about her past experiences with racism during a cast trip to Lake Tahoe, Garcelle admitted her good friend should have “just listened” before addressing the ongoing conversations about race currently happening on The Real Housewives of New York City.

“What Sutton was trying to do is share her experience, and I think what happened wrong is that she stepped on Crystal. She should have waited until Crystal was done and then said how she feels,” Beauvais told Insider on June 9. “Her cutting Crystal off made people feel like she was not taking Crystal’s experience to heart.”

While Garcelle acknowledged that Sutton could have handled the situation with Crystal much better, she also said she didn’t believe she “intentionally” silenced their RHOBH castmate.

“I don’t feel like Sutton did it intentionally,” she admitted. “We had been drinking. I think she was just like, ‘Well, let me tell you about my experience.’ And it was like, ‘No, no. You should have just listened.'”

Moving on to the race debates on RHONY, Garcelle called Eboni “a great addition to” the cast, and she said the sometimes-complicated conversations are getting people more used to opening up.

“Now everybody is noticing more and hearing more,” she shared. “And when that happens, not everybody’s going to be comfortable and be like, ‘Yeah, let’s talk about race.’ Not everybody’s going to want to jump on board because it may show them something about themselves that they’re not aware of.”

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 11 airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
