Emily Simpson saw Vicki Gunvalson‘s split from Steve Lodge coming.

During a new interview, the Real Housewives of Orange County cast member, who went through her own relationship trials with husband Shane Simpson on the show, said that after hearing Vicki’s brother predict the couple would never wed, she assumed their romance was doomed.

“No, not at all,” Emily told Hollywood Life on November 2. “At their engagement, her brother told me they were never going to get married, so hello, no I was not surprised at all!”

Emily also wasn’t surprised when Steve came out and said that his and Vicki’s engagement ended months prior to her reveal regarding the end of their relationship in September.

“I knew Steve broke up with Vicki a long time ago,” Emily said. “If anybody was paying attention, there were no photos of the two of them on her Instagram for months.”

During another interview, the RHOC castmate offered an update on her and Shane’s marriage.

“Shane and I are in such a good place,” she told the Bravo Insider on November 2. “And I know you’ve all just been on the ride with us as we’ve gone up and down, but that’s what marriage is, right? It’s a roller coaster.”

According to Emily, she and Shane were able to get to a better place within their relationship after making the decision to invest not only in their marriage but in one another.

“That’s what we’ve tried to do to really make our marriage better is really invest in each other and to spend more time together and to try to listen to each other more, which is really, really hard for me because I don’t listen to other people. I just like to talk but I’m trying to do better in that,” she shared.

Emily and Shane have also been implementing more date nights.

“You really have to commit to spending time together, one-on-one, and that makes a huge difference in a marriage, at least it did for us,” she added.

The Real Housewives of Orange County season 16 is expected to premiere sometime in the coming weeks.
