Whitney Sudler-Smith was hit with a devastating loss during the production of the currently airing eighth season of Southern Charm.
In a Facebook post shared on Thursday, Patricia Altschul, Whitney’s mother, confirmed the death of his father and explained why Whitney, who both stars and produces the Bravo reality series, chose to keep the information to himself amid filming.
“So you know … Whitney had just lost his father during filming but being private, chose not to exploit it,” Patricia explained in her post, which included an Instagram Story shared by Naomie Olindo that included a photo of the three of them and two friends.
Whitney’s dad, Lon Hayes Smith, was born on March 15, 1937, and died on August 22, 2021, at the age of 84.
He was married to Patricia from 1962 until 1979.
As Whitney remains silent in regard to his loss, fans, and his co-stars, continue to discuss his season eight hookup with Naomie, which was recently revealed on the show — much to the shock of many, especially Naomie’s ex-boyfriend Craig Conover.
Still, Whitney didn’t think his season eight romance with his castmate was that controversial, asking on last week’s episode, “Who gives a s–t?”
“There are other reasons, it’s not just some random hookup,” he continued. “It’s none of [Craig’s] f–king business, so we don’t need to explain ourselves in any capacity.”
And, according to Craig, Whitney and Naomie won’t need to explain themselves as their relationship is expected to play out in the coming episodes of the show.
“It wasn’t a short-lived thing,” Craig told Us Weekly days ago. “I definitely know that. They definitely filmed a lot more than what you’ve seen so far. So, I’m kind of excited with everyone else to see, you know, Whitney dating someone.”
