Luann de Lesseps is opening up about her sobriety as she also admits it’s”hard” amid filming on the new season of the Real Housewives of New York City. She is also sharing an update on her relationship with her two kids following their shocking lawsuit earlier this year against her.
Luann’s rocky year began last December following her arrest for disorderly intoxication in Palm Beach, FL on Christmas Eve – after she mistakenly entered the wrong hotel room. Days after her arrest, Luann, 53, checked into rehab.
Unfortunately for Luann, she relapsed in July, and ended up back in rehab just days before the filming of RHONY season 10 reunion. Following a two week stint this summer, the Bravo star is now celebrating being over 100 days sober.
“It’s not easy. I take it day by day and that’s all I can do,” said Luann to Us Weekly. “I try not to think about it in the long term and just think day by day and today, I’m not drinking. I must say I’ve gotten more done in the last six months than I did the past couple of years. I feel much more clear-headed and on my game. I just want to be present.”
“it’s getting easier the longer I’m sober and sometimes I’m like, ‘I’m so glad I don’t drink!’” she admits. “Sure it’s not easy but I don’t wake up saying, ‘Oh I wish I had a hangover!’ So that’s a positive.”
Luann however adds that she’s having to learn a new way of living with each passing day.
“It’s a matter of changing your learned behavior really and it’s really learned and making way for a new thought process which is, I can enjoy New Year’s without drinking,”she explained. “Like I figured out I can enjoy going out for dinner without drinking. Who knew?”
In a separate interview, Luann addressed her relationship with her children, Victoria de Lesseps and Noel de Lesseps, after they, along with her ex-husband Count Alexandre de Lesseps, sued her for mismanaging the kids’ trust. Following Luann’s 2009 divorce, her kids were entitled to half of her Hamptons home in the case that she sold it. She ended up selling it in 2014 for $8 million, and used the proceeds to buy another home for herself. She then listed the new home this year for $6 million which prompted the lawsuit after she told her kids she had no plans of giving them half of the proceeds.
Fast forward to today, Luann is revealing all is well with her children after she agreed pull the Hamptons home from the market. Instead of using the money from the Hamptons home sale to buy another home for herself, Luann has instead used her own money to purchase a modest $1 million home in upstate New York. You can see photos of her new home here.
“There was a big hiccup about me wanting to get a house upstate and not being in the Hamptons,” Luann told the Daily Mail. “So, I decided to keep the Hamptons home and I’m getting a house upstate in any case.”
As for why she is doing a lot of press now, it is to promote the launch of her statement necklace collection with SuperJeweler.
