Gina Kirschenheiter‘s husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, didn’t appear on episodes of The Real Housewives of Orange County but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t watching. In fact, according to a recent interview, Matt was tuned in, and very opinionated, about much of season 13.
Although Gina and Matt chose to end their relationship in April, months before the season 13 premiere, Gina’s estranged husband remained supportive of her throughout her reality debut and didn’t like it when Emily Simpson‘s husband, Shane Simpson, threw her out of his Southern California home.
Speaking to The Daily Dish on November 19, Gina admitted Matt was nervous to watch the show at first.
“I think he was so scared to even see what was happening there and then I think my sister-in-law, she’s obviously one of my No.1 supporters, and then my brother-in-law is like a secret fan. So I think they kind of were telling him like, ‘No, you have to watch it. It’s fine. It’s all good,'” she explained.
Now, after giving the show a shot, Matt frequently texts Gina his thoughts about the happenings of each episode.
“He checked in with me when I was sad on the show and stuff because he doesn’t know, he obviously wasn’t there for that. He felt bad,” Gina revealed. “He was like, ‘I feel so bad that you had to go through that and everybody has to see that.’ Or he’ll give me a little text and go, ‘You know, you definitely didn’t say that. I know you didn’t say that.’ He’s supportive or whatever. But it’s weird for him! I don’t know, it’s weird for both of us.”
As for that awkward moment during game night earlier this season in which Shane became frustrated at the amount of noise happening during a game night at his home and kicked out Gina, Matt was quite upset.
“He wanted to punch Shane in the face,” Gina revealed. “He didn’t like that. And he was like, ‘If I see him being disrespectful to you, I’m gonna have a problem with it.’ But it was fine because it moved on, and we moved on, and it’s fine. He doesn’t like people being disrespectful.”
Although Gina and Matt are still working out the details of their divorce, they have established a “new normal” when it comes to their life as a family with their three kids, including Nicholas, 6, Sienna, 4, and Luca, 3, and continue to live together in their Coto de Caza home.
Unfortunately, not everyone has been a fan of how the couple has been raising their kids and have voiced their criticism online. Understandably, those comments have upset Matt as well.
“He really, really hates seeing when people are mean [on] social media about the kids. People will be like, ‘Your kids are brats. They’re spoiled rich kids.’ And I’m like, no, that’s not it at all. He gets really upset by that,” Gina explained. “And I’m like, just stop looking for it. Don’t look for it. But I don’t know, he does.”
