As this season of The Real Housewives of New York City comes to a close, Luann de Lesseps is reflecting on the franchise and speaking out about her co-stars. From Dorinda Medley‘s exit to her and Sonja Morgan‘s beef to Leah McSweeney‘s all-star success, the “Viva La Diva” chanteuse had a lot to dish.
In the new interview, Luann said that one long time co-star, Ramona Singer, never ceases to shock her as the cameras start shooting, but it was another cast member whose behavior took her a little off-guard this year.
“I think Dorinda this season was shocking to me. She just had a lot of issues going on and a lot of anger, so it kind of comes out this season,” Luann told Global News’ The Morning Show on September 3. “We’ve got the reunion coming up after this finale, so I’m excited for everyone to see how that kind of pans out.”
The show hosts then pressed Luann about Dorinda’s reasons for leaving the show and if the franchise will be “worse off without her.”
Rumors swirled around the reality star’s departure last week after varied reports told of her voluntary exit while others painted a different picture of Andy Cohen and producers’ disdain regarding her behavior.
Luann shared that the two have been friends for “a long time” before the show and that it’s “always sad to see a cast member go,” but Dorinda’s “rough year” most likely propelled her to a much-needed “break.”
“I think it was agreed between her and the network that she would take a year off,” Luann shared. “[T]he door’s always open for her. She’s got some issues to figure out. I think it’s a good thing for her. Like I said, Andy extended the olive branch; that opportunity is always there for her. I wish her the best, I want her to be well and … feelin’ Jovani.”
The show hosts also pressed Luann about her confrontation with Sonja this season in The Berkshires, considering Sonja’s insistence that Luann seriously underpaid for her participation in the cabaret show.
“I’m sure that Sonja would love to be on a cabaret tour with Live Nation, so I think people might guess where [her hostility] might be coming from,” the cabaret star laughed. “I have amazing talent in my show, the top Broadway talent. I’ve had Rachel Dratch, who’s a comedian who’s amazing. I’ve had lots of big, big Broadway talent — that’s why it’s called ‘Countess and Friends.’ I like to include Sonja, but I’m not paying Sonja more than I would pay Rachel Dratch to come up and take off her dress; I’m just not gonna do it.”
Perhaps the “Money Can’t Buy You Class” singer may always have some low-key beef with her longstanding co-stars, but she had nothing but great things to say about RHONY newcomer this season, Leah.
“Leah I’ve liked from the get-go,” Luann gushed. “I think that she walked into a cast of women who’ve been on the show for years and she can hold her own. She’s a woman who’s self-made, she’s a mom. She’s also vulnerable, and I think that’s why people relate to her. She’s also a different age group so people can relate. She’s cool and I think she’s a great addition to the cast and I think she’s here to stay for a while.”
The Real Housewives of New York City season 10 reunion will air next Thursday at 9 p.m. on Bravo.
