Emily Simpson‘s husband, Shane Simpson, faced many trials while attempting to ace the bar exam during season 14 of The Real Housewives of Orange County, and he ultimately didn’t pass the challenging test required for lawyers to officially practice law.
Now, Emily is giving an update on her husband’s legal career. She’s noting if he has taken the exam as of late and how he’s moving forward in his career.
“Well he hasn’t taken it recently. He does every once in a while tell me that he plans to take it again. I’m just like ‘OK.’ I don’t even want to know if he takes it again. I don’t know, can you just take it and not tell me?” she told Bravo’s The Daily Dish. “It stresses me out. It just stresses me out too much and then it becomes part of the show and everybody talks about it.”
Emily also shared her thoughts on her husband’s legal career becoming a hot topic of conversation on the show. The outlet wondered if she, as a lawyer herself, was at all surprised by the attention he has received.
“Well, you know, Shane is more controversial than I am,” she stated with a laugh. “That’s why he gets discussed more than me. But no, it is interesting, yeah.”
She continued, “I feel badly for him ’cause when I took the bar exam in 2005, I took it as a single person. I didn’t have children. I didn’t have a job. I had just graduated from law school. So, I didn’t have all these other responsibilities. So, I feel badly that not only is he trying to take the bar exam where he is a father of five children and has a wife and a home and a family. But he’s doing it with like two million people watching. I feel badly ’cause that’s a lot of pressure.”
As RHOC fans witnessed in the season 15 premiere, Shane and Emily — who had their share of rough patches in the past — were off to a good start of the season, and they were moving on from past relationship turbulence.
Emily reiterated that despite what fans see on TV, Shane has his own way of handling the issues behind-the-scenes.
“[W]e are [doing better] and I think we’ve just gotten to the point where it’s just — he really doesn’t care. He handles all of that so much better than I do,” she stated. “I’ll be like, ‘Oh my gosh, people — ‘ and he’s like, ‘I don’t care.’ He really doesn’t care. So I have to give him props for really just the show and people and their opinions of him, they literally do not affect him at all.”
