Kathy Hilton was taken by surprise while filming her very first episode as a “friend” of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

During a new interview, Kathy opened up about her biggest surprise of filming before sharing how husband Rick Hilton reacted to her new gig and revealing how she will decide on whether or not she’ll continue with her part-time position on season 12.

“For the first episode, I went to [Dorit Kemsley]’s for a barbecue. I thought I looked pretty nice; I had on a silk flowy dress and espadrilles. And I could not believe it. I walked in, and all of these women–they looked absolutely gorgeous–it was like New York Fashion week meets Paris couture shows meets the red carpet at the Oscars,” Kathy said during an interview with Town & Country on June 9.

Kathy was also surprised that the show was so authentic.

“I thought somebody would be whispering in one of the girl’s ears, or starting rumors, that it would be somewhat manufactured drama,” she admitted.

Although Kathy wasn’t open to joining the RHOBH cast during season 10, she said she had a change of heart once Bravo made a couple of changes to the cast.

“There was a lot of chaotic crazy drama on last season. But I thought, ‘This seems to be a fun group of ladies.’ They definitely have the drama going, but it’s just a little different,” she explained.

In addition to liking the fact that her longtime friend, Crystal Kung-Minkoff, had been brought to the cast, Kathy was happy to see that after going through “a lot of bumps in the road” with Kyle Richards, her sister truly wanted her to get on board.

“I was very flattered. It made me feel really good,” she noted. “So, I talked about it with my husband. Rick said, ‘I think this would be a great opportunity for you to spend some time with Kyle.'”

Throughout production on season 11, Kathy and Kyle attended plenty of events together with their cast mates, and also enjoyed a fun (at least for the most part) trip to Lake Tahoe.

“It was my first time going on a girls’ trip without my husband, so [Kyle] was really looking after me. It brought us very close together,” she shared.

While Kathy did say that she and Kyle bickered back and forth a bit, as sisters do, she deemed herself as the “peacemaker” of season 11.

“I try to be somewhat of a peacemaker. I’m very good at helping people. I think maybe I was a therapist or a psychiatrist in my past life. They trust me, they talk to me, and I like to help them with any advice I can give,” she said. “I don’t want somebody coming into my home or anybody’s home, and then they get into a disagreement, and then they’re in hysterics crying, and then it’s “I’m out of here!” That doesn’t sit well with me. I don’t want anybody to get that worked up. So, I try to talk to them.”

As for reprising her role on season 12, Kathy said, “You know what, let’s see. Let’s see how I’m edited.”

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 11 airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
