Kathy Hilton faced backlash after being seen putting on lipgloss on stage in the middle of Mariska Hargitay‘s heartfelt speech at the People’s Choice Awards on Monday. And, days later, Kathy addressed the controversial incident.

After attending the event with her Real Housewives of Beverly Hills castmates, Kathy explained what went down when she was on stage with the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit actress before confirming she adores and respects Mariska and revealing she’s already “reached out.”

“I actually thought I was going to sneeze, and you don’t want to hear me sneeze, it’s the loudest sneeze,” Kathy explained to Extra TV on December 9. “So I was looking for a tissue, and I didn’t have a tissue or a hanky, so I got a little nervous and just put some lipstick on.”

“It was during her speech, so I thought, the camera’s not going to be on me. I didn’t think I was in that shot,” she continued.

While fans bombarded Kathy with criticism after the on-stage drama, with one person saying the RHOBH cast member was “rude [as f-ck] and cringe” and another social media user saying Kathy “comes off so entitled and aloof,” Kathy insisted she feels “terrible.”

“I adore, and I respect Mariska very much, and I already have reached out to her, DMed her, I want to get her address, I feel terrible,” she stated. “I would never do anything to be rude intentionally, and I’m really sorry. It was my first time being back on stage with some of the girls, too.”

On Monday, in addition to reuniting with her co-stars she’s currently friendly with, including Sutton Stracke and Crystal Kung-Minkoff, Kathy was sat at a table with her sister, Kyle Richards, Erika Jayne, and Lisa Rinna, all of whom she had falling outs with amid the 12th season of RHOBH.

“I apologize, Mariska. I’m really sorry, and I look forward to talking to you,” Kathy added.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 13 is expected to begin filming in early 2023.
