Lindsay Hubbard is calling out former fiancé Carl Radke for the cruel way in which he decided to call off their engagement in August.
After Carl, 38, sat her down for the cameras and ended their relationship months before they were set to wed in Mexico, the Summer House cast member, 37, opened up about her living arrangements, the fate of her engagement ring, and her wedding day plans while also addressing her castmates’ past criticisms of their romance and sharing why she thinks Carl called off their wedding.
“I was completely blindsided,” Lindsay told Us Weekly of her and Carl’s split on November 1. “He blew up my entire life. I was crying, I was angry, and I had to find closure on my own. Now I’m at a place where I feel really good about moving on.”
When Carl first broke up with Lindsay, she took time to allow herself to “go through the sadness, the pain, the whiplash.”
“I process [things] by talking about my emotions, and my friends allowed me that space. I was able to regain my strength and [the] confidence of like, OK, I can do this,” she recalled.
Along the way, Lindsay had support from her Summer House castmates, including Danielle Olivera, 34, who has “been so incredible.” Meanwhile, Kyle Cooke, 41, has seemingly taken Carl’s side, defending his decision to call it quits with Lindsay on several occasions.
“Kyle has always had it out for me. He thinks that I’m some master manipulator who controls the universe and he’s good friends with Carl,” Lindsay noted in response. “I think part of him wants to give Carl an ally, and part of him just always thinks I’m the one who’s in the wrong.”
While Kyle has expressed that Lindsay and Carl were having communication issues for months leading up to their breakup, Lindsay insisted that “not one person” on the cast saw the split coming.
“There were no red flags,” she stated. “Two weeks before he called it off, I was at my bridal shower and he showed up. One week before, I was at my dress fitting and he was fitting for his suits with all of his groomsmen.”
Following their split, Lindsay went to her bachelorette party. And when it comes to her November 17 wedding date (the cancellation of which she said Carl is in charge of), she’s planning to stay busy.
“I’m gonna start writing my book. It’ll be a mixture of career, dating, and family [anecdotes]. I’ve got a lot of stories to tell,” she teased.
As for her ring, she shared, “I gave it to my jeweler to sell it. I need to make up for all the lost money on the wedding.”
As Lindsay continues to recover from her heartbreak, she’s remained living in her and Carl’s formerly shared $13,000-per-month NYC apartment.
“I live there,” she confirmed. “I love my apartment. I spent a lot of time, money, and effort to make this home comfortable for us, for him to then burn it down. And at this point, I’m not in the mind space to think about, ‘Oh, where am I gonna live now?'”
Although there have been claims that Carl’s sobriety led to his decision to end their relationship, Lindsay said that was “not at all” a factor and added that it also had nothing to do with wedding planning or cheating.
“Every couple has normal arguments, but nothing that would’ve been so drastic as to break up. It was literally the last two weeks of summer that his demeanor and tone changed,” she explained of what led up to their breakup. “There was a lot of combativeness and aggression on his end, and I was very confused.”
“I think people got in his ear, [but] it’s not normal to call off a wedding because you had a couple of arguments,” she added.
Lindsay then said that the worst part of it all is their history.
“That’s the hardest part,” she shared. “And even now, if I have feelings that pop up in my mind or heart, it’s more that I lost my best friend than my fiancé.”
Looking back at the exact moment that Carl ended their relationship, Lindsay said, “It was absolutely humiliating.”
“It would’ve been one thing if this conversation happened over the summer during the normal filming schedule. But for [Carl] to call up producers and then set up cameras and manipulate me into sitting down [so he could break up with me] after we’d already wrapped is scary,” she explained. “The whole world found out within 30 minutes of me.”
“The way that Carl handled everything was such an absolute betrayal of my trust,” she added.
As for her future, Lindsay said she’s still hoping to get married and start a family.
“I will never give up on love. I have a very big heart; I’m not going to shut myself off from somebody else who would appreciate it. [And] in the last month, all I could think was thank God I froze my eggs,” she stated. “[I’d like to find] somebody ambitious, emotionally intelligent, who makes me laugh, can be intimate with me and lets me be me.”
“I’m excited for this new chapter. I think it’s gonna be really good,” she added.
Summer House season eight is expected to premiere on Bravo sometime later this year or in early 2024.
